Office Wi-Fi complaints almost always get diagnosed as a signal strength problem — 'we need a stronger router' — and the actual cause at growing headcount is usually device density rather than signal. A single access point can serve a signal strong enough to show full bars across an entire floor while genuinely struggling once forty or fifty devices are simultaneously trying to use it, because the access point's actual constraint is how many concurrent connections it can serve well, not how far its signal reaches.
The fix is more access points at lower individual power, deliberately overlapping in coverage, rather than fewer access points turned up to maximum strength to cover more area each. This runs against the intuition of 'stronger signal is better' but it's what actually solves the density problem — spreading the device load across more access points, each serving fewer devices, rather than concentrating everyone onto a small number of powerful ones.
Network segmentation matters more as an office grows past the size where everyone knows everyone's devices. Guest Wi-Fi, IoT devices (smart TVs in meeting rooms, printers, badge readers) and staff devices belong on separate network segments, because a compromised smart TV or an unmanaged guest device sitting on the same network as staff laptops is a lateral movement path into the corporate network that has nothing to do with Wi-Fi signal quality and everything to do with how the network is structured.
Wired infrastructure is worth planning alongside Wi-Fi rather than assuming wireless covers everything now. Desks with predictable, heavy, latency-sensitive use — anything doing serious video conferencing, or a workstation running compute-heavy work — genuinely benefit from a wired connection, and retrofitting Ethernet into an office designed around Wi-Fi-only is considerably more disruptive than planning for a mix from the start.
